Riportare un ordine o una richiesta

Per riportare un ordine o una richiesta, si può utilizzare un verbo come tell seguito da una proposizione introdotta da to: He told me to go away. La struttura è verbo + complemento indiretto + proposizione introdotta da to. Il complemento indiretto è la persona a cui ci si rivolge. Altri verbi usati per riportare un ordine o una richiesta seguendo questa struttura sono: command, order, warn, ask, advise, invite, beg, teach, forbid.

Suggerimenti e consigli

I suggerimenti e i consigli sono generalmente riportati usando i verbi suggest, insist, recommend, demand, request , propose seguiti da una proposizione introdotta da that. In questo tipo di frasi, that e should sono facoltativi, come nei due primi esempi qui sotto. Si noti che i verbi suggest, recommend e propose possono anche essere seguiti da un gerundio per eliminare il complemento indiretto (la persona a cui è stato rivolto il suggerimento o il consiglio); in questo modo il suggerimento è espresso in modo più educato. L'uso del gerundio è illustrato nella quarta e nella quinta frase di esempio.
